WORKING OF THE COMMISSION
The previous Commission has presented its first report to the Government in the year 2004 and a Second report in the year 2006. In order to make the Minorities join the main stream of progress, the Commission held a series of meetings with the representatives of Minorities, with various voluntary organizations involved in educational advancement and economic upliftment of the people in general and of Minorities in particular.
Meetings were also held with the Heads of Departments, Deputy Commissioners, IGP and Superintendent of Police and officers in charge of law and order and those implementing developmental programs at different levels. The Commission toured intensively in the State. During the visits to the Districts, emphasis has been in promoting communal harmony and on creating an atmosphere of peaceful co-existence.
The Commission had a feeling that economic imbalances and wide differences in the levels of living of different Communities is an important reason for generating communal tension. The Commission therefore decided to set up a Panel of experts to draft Vision-2025 document highlighting the opportunities which the Minority Communities can have in various sectors of growth and the role the Minorities themselves can play in availing these opportunities. The Panel has submitted the Vision 2025 document to the Commission and the Commission in turn has since presented the same to the Government for consideration and implementation.
The Commission has been making it a point to meet Religious Heads also during its visits to Districts. It exchanges views with them and conveys to them the message of fullest involvement of all Communities in creating an atmosphere of communal amity and Nation Building activity. |
